Meg Stalter is bringing Y2K beauty to the Emmys red carpet. The comedian and actor arrived at the award show in a sizzling-red lace dress (and looked amazing, might we add) but her "money piece" highlights stole the show.
Though Stalter has had the hair color for a few months, her soft-waved hairstyle, created by celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins, only served to amplify the look. "I wanted to do something classic, soft, and beautiful, to complement her bold red carpet statement of a dress," Hawkins tells POPSUGAR. Save for her highlights, the rest of Stalter's hair was kept its normal brunette color and cascaded down to the middle of her back.
"Money piece" highlights are one of the numerous '90s beauty trends making a comeback. "This look is bold yet subtle, with the face-framing pieces being a tone-on-tone blend all the way to a stark contrast of lightening around the face," "Matrix" artistic director Michelle O'Connor previously told POPSUGAR. "It's a great way to keep some depth at the roots, which makes for lower maintenance and upkeep. This is especially convenient during months where you're traditionally outside more and your hair has more natural sun exposure."
To get the look, Hawkins used a combination of Living Proof and Tangle Teezer products. "I started by applying Living Proof Restore Smooth Blowout Concentrate ($30) to her damp hair, then brushed out her hair with Tangle Teezer's The Ultimate Detangler ($15)," Hawkins tells POPSUGAR. After rough drying her hair and using some velcro rollers to add volume to the front of her head, he then focused on giving a bit of texture by waving her hair. "For the final touches, I used Tangle Teezer's The Wide Tooth Comb ($12) to rake through her long hair without disrupting the wave pattern. The result is classic, effortless and still a bit bold just like Meg herself."
